It is an unmissable event of the tourist season in Combourg (Ille-et-Vilaine). Profound changes are planned for the Lantern Festival which will take place on Saturday August 24 and Sunday August 25, 2024.

An event which has established its notoriety over the years welcoming an ever-increasing audience, up to 10,000 festival-goers.

A change of location in 2024

Mainly two reasons “led us to make this choice of change of location”, explains the organizer Combourg Animations.

The first, “the need for cash to organize a larger concert like that of Tryo, perhaps in 2026. Indeed, the fact of organizing only free events during the year, apart from the Floréales, does not allow us to finance such a project. In 2022 and 2023, there were around 50 concerts organized, 90% of which were free.”

A person recruited

Combourg animations needs cash, particularly to finance employment. The association has, in fact, grown over the past 4 years. We had to hire a part-time person to help us professionalize ourselves in order to organize all the important events, such as the Floréales Romantiques, the Music Festival, the Summer Wednesdays, the big clearance sale, the Hivernales and concerts and shows…”

The evolution of the festival

Christian Rogerg, the linchpin of the event which will celebrate its 20th edition this year, traces the evolution of this festival: “In 2021, Combourg Animations transformed the Lantern Festival into the Lantern Festival, by organizing the Tryo concert at the Moulin Madame Stadium. In 2022 and 2023, we returned to the city center of Combourg with, this time, two days of festivities and more than 20 free concerts on 5 stages.”
For this 2024 edition, “the Lantern Festival will take place at the Moulin Madame de Combourg stadium,” informs Christian Rogerg.

Paid entry

This year, the festival will therefore change location and “will be organized at the Moulin Madame Stadium with paid entry in order to sustain the association’s finances and prepare for a large-scale festival in 2026”. This change of location “was agreed with Combourg merchants last October,” Christian Rogerg would like to point out.

Therefore, consideration was given to setting up a price. This has been studied “so that it is accessible to everyone, and set at €10 for the day for adults and €15 for two days, with entertainment all day on August 24 and 25, date chosen for the festival.

On the festival program

Without revealing the entire program, the organizers announce the presence of local producers, creators and brewers, concerts, shows, dance, entertainment.

A program in the same spirit as that of past years, “rich, varied and quality”, the objective being not to lose the spirit of the festival, “festive, dynamic, friendly and family”.
