From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday October 13, a sale is held in the rooms of the Town Hall, for the benefit of sick children, of dishes that belonged to great chefs from New Aquitaine. There were people there the day before at the opening

An hour before the opening, on October 12, the queue was already stretching from the doors of City Hall to those of Saint-André Cathedral. The annual sale of table services that belonged to prestigious restaurants in the region, most of them from , was to begin at 10 a.m.

Faced with such an influx, the third Bordeaux edition of La Vaisselle des chefs began a little early. “On Saturday, there is a choice and, on Sunday, good deals,” says Florence Daveau, the manager of the events agency Idées en Bulles, which organizes this charitable action with the Aquitaine-Charentes-Quercy division of Kiwanis. The amount donated to this international organization will be used to help children suffering from a rare disease, in particular nevus. “These are children who are born with huge moles on their bodies,” explains a representative of Kiwanis clubs, Jean-Pierre Guillot. It is a very serious illness in children.”

“Win-win concept”

By 1 p.m., a good portion of the goods had found buyers. “I am renewing the dishes that I have had at home for forty years, which are very ordinary,” confides Annick, who has had to make several trips with her shopping trolley. She bought fourteen soup plates, eighteen dishes and two dishes. Yolande fell in love with a candle holder and small triangular plates forming a pretty set for an aperitif, at 6 euros each. We will not give the price of the larger ones, because they are for a gift. “They look like a cut slice of wood. This is to give to a carpenter. » Original and tasteful, they come from a renowned address, Le Gabriel, located on Place de la Bourse. “At 10 a.m., we were invaded,” notes with satisfaction Jean-Guy, who runs this stand with Marlène, from the Angoulême-Val de Charente Kiwanis club. We sold a lot. » Another example in the next room: at 11 a.m., the forty boxes of six new steak knives, from the stocks of the Couzon brand, were gone.

The approximately 10,000 pieces presented in the four exhibitions dedicated to the operation all come from renowned restaurants. They had been brought to the town hall by the restaurateurs themselves, with one exception. “Our volunteers went to collect several cubic meters of dishes on Thursday at La table des Frères Ibarboure, in Bidart, in Dantean conditions,” says Jean-Pierre Guillot. Trees had fallen, roads were cut, we couldn’t see three meters away. »

In the end, however, only the prices were broken. According to visitors, it was definitely worth the trip, with equal success from one display to the next. “The more notoriety and stars the establishment has, the more its specifications require regular renewal of its tableware and decoration,” notes Florence Daveau. Every five years on average. »

La Vaisselle des chefs, which has existed since 2010 in , will take place for the first time in in 2025, at the Apprentis d’Auteuil foundation. “A win-win concept. »

Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., City Hall lounge.
