The quintet with multiple hits Coldplay unveiled “Moon Music” on October 4. An album incorporating the pop and airy musical codes of the English group while communicating a message of unity and love.

In 2024, the group Coldplay has almost thirty years of career and success behind it. From the hit “Yellow” released in 2000 to “Vida la Vida” via “A Sky Full of Stars”, the group has sold more than 105 million records, been awarded nine Brit Awards, seven Grammy Awards and seven New Musical Express Awards.

The cream of the crop

The credits for “Moon Music” include many big names in music, starting with Swedish producer Max Martin, who pens the majority of the songs on the album. The latter notably created hits by Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and The Weeknd.

American guitarist and producer Nile Rodgers as well as Andrew Taggart of the Chainsmokers bring their touch to the disco track “Good Feelings”, where Chris Martin sings a duet with Nigerian singer Ayra Starr. On “We Pray”, slightly hip-hop, the singer is accompanied by the London rapper Little Simz, the Nigerian rapper Burna Boy, the Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna, as well as the Argentinian singer and actress Tini. Finally, the British musician Brian Eno, with whom Coldplay has collaborated since its beginnings, co-signed the soaring track which concludes the record “One World”.

Simple and touching words

Throughout the album, Coldplay sings for peace, love and the freedom to love whoever you wish. On a mysterious song titled simply with a rainbow emoji, the group broadcasts the voice of the American poet Maya Angelou who speaks of rainbows. On “We Pray”, Chris Martin uses the word “Barayé”, title of the song by Iranian singer Shervin Hajipour in support of the women’s protest movement in Iran.

Characteristic elements of the Coldplay style

A tailor-made pop color, soaring and melancholy, Elton John-style piano, arrangements reminiscent of those of the Beatles, all characteristic elements of Coldplay’s style which are found in this new record. However, it also contains more distinct proposals, oscillating on the contemplative and instrumental side, almost a little psychedelic, with sometimes electro elements. Enough to satisfy early fans while trying some new things.

This tenth album is Coldplay’s antepenultimate. In fact, the group announced to its fans on October 4 that once their twelfth album was released, it would concentrate on touring only. The group has not yet announced a concert in Switzerland.
