Unlike many filmmaker series, where the author is mainly a prestigious guest for one or two episodes, Disclaimer is from start to finish a work of Alfonso Cuarón (the Sons of Man, Gravity, Roma…) During his preview presentation at the Venice Film Festival, the Mexican filmmaker explained that he pulled out his hair to try to contain the story, inspired by a novel by Renée Knight (Revealed), in the two or three hours of a film before realizing, a few years later, that he had to embrace the long duration of the series. Without changing anything in his language: “During the entire process, it was never considered to do things differently than for cinema. We did everything as if it were a film. Or seven films.” The marathon shoot lasted almost a year. But the result actually contrasts with the average television show. Each shot is carefully thought out and worked on, from the setting to the movements, including the use of color.
