Boucar Diouf addresses his differences with Just for Laughs

Boucar Diouf was the guest of choice on the show For oncewhere he was entitled to four interviews with four different personalities. A moment where he addressed a multitude of subjects, both on a personal and professional level.

It is in the company of Daniel Lemire that the comedian and man of many talents confided in his difficulties with Just for laughsat the time, after his interviewer asked him how he saw his job as a comedian.

Lemire clarified, at the same time, that Boucar was not the type to want to seek laughter at all costs.

“You know, I had difficulties with Just for laughs at the time. Then I stopped going because when they told me: Well, we invite you to a gala…I wrote my act, then I constantly put in bits that are more poetic, for the heart,” reveals Boucar.

“They censored you?”, wants to know Daniel.

“Yes (…). I said: When I write a text, I have three targets: first the spleen; dilate the spleen, touch the heart and perhaps stimulate the mind, but that is not an obligation. When I write, I always try to find that balance. Just for Laughs was not in matters of the heart (…) and from time to time, they said to me: You need to hire someone to punch up your text. I said: No, I’m capable of punching a text, it’s because it doesn’t tempt me, that’s what I’m going to do. Then, they kicked me out, often (…) Then, finally, I told them: I don’t come anymore, it’s over (…),” he adds frankly.

It was later, still during his tête-à-tête with Daniel Lemirewhom he admitted to having already often been approached to get into politics. So, his illustrious counterpart wanted to know if working in this field could be an option.

“No, because I feel more useful doing what I do. That is to say, looking at things, pointing and saying: Look at this, it doesn’t work! and to have tons of people writing to me to say: Eat shit (…) They are quick about that, the Quebecers, they kindly suggest that you go eat some, there,” replies Diouf with humor, who clearly does not aspire to enter politics!

A very interesting moment in the company of Boucar Diouf!
