After having been postponed numerous times, Mr. Mervil’s case was back in court Monday morning at the Rimouski courthouse.
On a previous date, the crown prosecutor and the defense lawyer had scheduled five days for the trial to take place before judge alone.
Luck Mervil is accused of sexually assaulting a woman on the night of June 23 to 24, 2000 in Rimouski.
Remember that the singer was arrested on November 29 by investigators from the crimes against the person division of Rimouski.
Mervil’s lawyer, Me Anne-Marie Drouin, had also entered a not guilty plea last February for her client, who never appeared before the court in this case.
A publication ban prevents us from identifying the complainant.
However, in an interview given to The PressLuck Mervil had claimed to have been the victim of a “mistaken identity” and assured that he did not know the person who filed the complaint.
The man in his fifties is not his first encounter with the law.
He was sentenced to six months in home confinement in 2018 after being convicted of the sexual exploitation of a teenage girl.
At that time, his name was added to the national sex offender registry for 20 years.
