MeToo – In prison in New York for rape, the former Hollywood king producer is targeted by new prosecutions

New charges against former Hollywood king producer Harvey Weinstein. In prison in New York for rape, he is the target of new charges, according to American media quoting prosecutors. These charges, the content of which is not yet public, were issued by a New York grand jury, prosecutors specified Thursday during a hearing, according to these media.

Harvey Weinstein, 72, who was hospitalized overnight from Saturday to Sunday for surgery, did not attend the hearing. These new charges will be formally notified to him in court when he is fit to appear. “He is resting, he is weak” but “out of danger for now,” a spokesperson for Harvey Weinstein, Juda Engelmayer, told AFP on Tuesday.

Accused by more than 80 women of harassment, sexual assault or rape

Harvey Weinstein will be retried after an appeals court in April overturned his 2020 New York conviction for the 2013 rape of actress Jessica Mann and the 2006 sexual assault of production assistant Mimi Haleyi. The reversal was seen as an affront and a step backward for the #MeToo movement, which was launched with the Weinstein affair, against sexual and gender-based violence against women.
