The Ministry of Health has issued a warning regarding human respiratory viruses which experience a strong spread during the winter season, emphasizing the importance of preventive measures to effectively protect against them.
In a press release published this Thursday, the ministry specified that these viruses are transmitted mainly by droplets emitted when infected people speak, cough or sneeze. Contamination can also occur by contact with surfaces or objects soiled by these droplets, or by hands. These viruses are among the main causes of inflammation of the sinuses, throat, larynx and lower respiratory tract.
The statement also warned of serious complications that may arise, particularly in the most vulnerable populations, such as children, the elderly, pregnant women, as well as those with weakened immunity or chronic illnesses.
Symptoms of these infections include high fever, pain in the head, muscles and joints, runny nose, sore throat and persistent cough, with or without sputum. Infected people may also experience loss of appetite and severe fatigue.
The ministry strongly recommends consulting a doctor quickly to assess the seriousness of the situation and determine appropriate treatment. Although no specific treatment is available for most of these viruses, it is advisable to prioritize rest, abundant hydration and regular washing of the nose.
Furthermore, prevention is described as the best solution to reduce the risk of infection. Recommended measures include:
• Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds,
• Avoid touching the face, particularly the nose, mouth and eyes,
• Clean surfaces frequently with effective disinfectants,
• Adopt a balanced diet, sufficient sleep and regular physical activity,
• Ventilate enclosed spaces well and avoid excessive heating,
• Cover your mouth before going out into cold environments.
The ministry calls on the population to respect these instructions to limit the spread of respiratory viruses and preserve collective health.
