After the kidnapping of a humanitarian worker in Niger, regional authorities immediately strengthened security measures and launched search operations.

An Austrian national, Eva Gretzmacher, was kidnapped on Saturday January 11 around 7:30 p.m. in the Agadez region, the regional authority reported Monday during an extraordinary meeting of the Regional Security Council (CRS) cited by the press agency. Nigerien (ANP).

General Ibrah Boulama Issa, Governor of the Agadez region, who chaired this meeting, announced that “ important additional safety measures » were immediately deployed following this incident.

A respected figure in the local community, Ms. Gretzmacher had lived, according to Air Info, in Agadez for 28 years where she founded the association “ Thank you“. Since 2010, she has managed a skills center developing projects in education, women’s empowerment, ecology, culture and art.

The defense and security forces (FDS) launched search operations as soon as the kidnapping was reported. Regional authorities also called on the population to “ redouble your vigilance » and to report any suspicious presence or unusual behavior.

During this meeting, the governor welcomed “ frank collaboration » between the civilian population and the FDS in their efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.

The kidnapping of the European national has not yet been claimed.

The Agadez region, located in the north of Niger, is a strategic area where the authorities maintain a reinforced security system.
