Why Bordeaux and Toulouse could face each other in the semi-finals

The EPCR has already defined how the quarter-final and semi-final table will be structured. Here’s what that could look like (knowing that it will always be the best-ranked team during the group stage that hosts, Editor’s note).

• Q1 = 8^e 1 – 8^e 8 > Bordeaux – Ulster / Glasgow – Leicester
• Q2 = 8^e 2 – 8^e 7 > Leinster – Bath / Saracens – Munster
• Q3 = 8^e 3 – 8^e 6 > Toulon – Racing 92 / La Rochelle – Harlequins
• Q4 = 8^e 4 – 8^e 5 > Northampton – Castres / Toulouse – Clermont

DF1 = Q1 – Q4 > Bordeaux – Ulster / Glasgow – Leicester vs Northampton – Castres / Toulouse – Clermont

As a result, Bordeaux, which should most likely finish with the best record, and Toulouse, which should be the best team to finish second in the group, would find themselves in the same part of the table and would meet in the semi-final.
