“Catastrophic situation” in the emergency room of the Tours CHRU, Sud Santé-Sociaux alert

“This weekend, there was one to two hours of waiting in the emergency room of the CHRU before even being registered by the reception nurse”denounces the Sud Santé-Sociaux union delegate Anita Garnier, particularly worried about the days to come, while “the flu hits much harder than in previous years” in the Centre-Val de region.

Once registered, patients must, according to her, still wait “long hours” before being examined by a doctor. “The problem is that there are no more beds in the hospital, and the ten closed intensive care beds are really lacking. Doctors spend their time looking for beds. » A tense situation that several hospitals in are also experiencing.

An alert sent Friday

“In Tours, from Friday, we sent alert letters. Even the doctors asked that the CHRU be placed under the status of hospital in tension, the stage before the white plan. But management refused because this required deprogramming blocks for non-urgent operations. »

Anita Garnier insists on the lack of staff “caregivers, nurses, paramedical and medical staff” and even doctors. “This makes colleagues feel unsafe. We fear a catastrophe, like extremely serious discomfort on a stretcher…” Agents from other services are deployed as reinforcements. “But on a voluntary basis. This does not fill all the holes in the schedule. Friday evening, we were forced to close the Smur branch in Tours-north. »

And to deplore again that “those over 80 no longer meet the criteria” to be hospitalized in intensive care. “They stay in beds for several days in a short-term accommodation unit. But first, some can spend more than fifteen hours on stretchers. An elderly woman even spent the night from Monday to Tuesday in a reclining position…”

The trade unionist notes a situation “similar to before Covid” while concluding that “the various devices or plans, and even the establishment of a medical center in Trousseau, did not work.”
