A priorithe link between fat present in the abdomen and the occurrence of Alzheimer’s disease is not obvious, excess abdominal fat being rather associated with the occurrence of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

However, a new study supports this potential link between a type of abdominal fat and the occurrence of this degenerative disease. Presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), this the link between the visceral fatthat is to say that which surrounds the viscera (stomach, intestine, liver, etc.), and the occurrence of Alzheimer’s disease. It would even be possible to predict its occurrence up to 20 years before symptoms appearand this just by observing visceral fat.
