It’s red fruit season! And for those who are not lucky enough to have an orchard close to home, or who are not used to buying them in trays, there is still frozen food.

Be careful, however, with the bag you take out of the freezer: raspberries sold at Carrefour could contain norovirus, a virus which gives symptoms similar to acute gastroenteritis.

The product in detail

In detail, Rappel-Conso.gouv.fr, which relays the alert, talks about 400 g bags of whole raspberries sold between April 3 and June 25, 2024 in all Carrefours in France.

To recognize the product, you have to look towards the back of the bag, where you can read the identification data. The barcode of the bags affected by the potential presence of norovirus is 3560071331771. The exact lot is 50616301, and raspberries from the possibly infected bags can be consumed until April 3, 2026.

The brand of the sachets is “Carrefour bio”.

Vomiting, fevers, diarrhea…

According to Rappel-Conso.gouv.fr, you should no longer consume these products, and return them to the point of sale where a refund will be organized until Sunday August 25, 2024.

The reason ? The raspberries could have been contaminated by norovirus, the main cause of acute gastroenteritis. It is also the virus that contaminated a large number of oysters in December, and forced shellfish farmers to reduce their production.

Rappel-Conso mentions symptoms “corresponding to acute gastroenteritis, namely vomiting, nausea, diarrhea isolated or accompanied by headaches, abdominal cramps, malaise, anorexia, fever, chills”.

The government body invites those who have consumed these raspberries to consult a doctor, and calls for great vigilance among immunocompromised people.
