Monkeypox disease has been declared in North Kivu since Monday June 24. This disease, which appeared since June 2, has already affected eight people in three health zones, according to the provincial government. This includes the Nyiragongo health zone with five cases reported, that of Goma with two cases and the Karisimbi health zone, one case.

The provincial government reminds that this disease is very dangerous and extremely contagious. There is a high risk of contamination for the population of the city of Goma and its surroundings, fears the provincial authority.

To protect against monkeypox, avoid any physical or sexual contact with anyone who shows signs of monkeypox or any other liquid from sick people: blood, urine, saliva, vomit, sweat, semen. When you yourself show suspicious signs of monkeypox or in case of contact with a suspicious person, wash your hands immediately with soap or ash, then go to the nearest health center “, advised Prisca Kamala, health advisor to the governor of North Kivu.

The provincial government and its partners also recommend a series of preventive measures, when certain signs appear:

Monkeypox manifests itself in humans by a sudden high fever and skin rashes. These lesions begin on the apples of the hands and the soles of the feet and can even spread throughout the body. “.
