According to a projection from Public Health France, the “No Tobacco Month” operation would prevent 28,000 cancers in 2050 and achieve 100 million euros in savings on health spending per year.

Since 2016, No Tobacco Month has encouraged smokers to give up cigarettes every year. A Public Health France investigation, published on November 11, estimates that the operation is a “positive return on investment», both on a health and economic level.
Stopping smoking: beneficial effects on public health
According to its different scenarios, Public Health France has estimated that the No Tobacco Month campaign would save 107,000 years of life by preventing “241,000 cases of lower respiratory infections, 28,000 cases of cancer, 18,000 cases of cardiovascular diseases, 8,000 cases of dementia and 4,000 cases of diabetes» to the 2050 horizon.
Nearly 100 million euros in savings per year with No Tobacco Month
A health benefit which is coupled with a real economic advantage: each euro invested in the operation would save seven euros in health costs, or a total of 94 million euros per year.
No Tobacco Month would also have a positive impact on employment and productivity: by reducing illnesses and work stoppages, smoking cessation would increase by “2,800 full-time equivalents per year for an estimated value of 85 million euros».
