When CHAI was established, many considered this goal unreasonable because health systems in poor countries were too weak and the prices of relevant drugs and diagnostic tests were too high. CHAI has played a leading role, working alongside governments and other partners, to reduce treatment costs and help build the national systems needed to provide lifesaving care.
Role Overview
- CHAI is looking for a highly motivated individual to help countries in Africa rapidly reduce and eliminate malaria and NTDs. The Regional Manager will play a critical role in developing the government’s strategy to combat malaria and NTDs at regional and national levels in some of the world’s most endemic countries, including Nigeria.
- To achieve this, the Regional Manager will coordinate and help carry out the work of CHAI’s national and regional technical teams to support countries in developing evidence-based national strategic plans to guide strategic decision-making, develop costing models to assess necessary financial resources and contribute to data-driven cost optimization analysis for health strategies to maximize limited resources. The role will also help manage communications between countries, regions and teams, organize CHAI’s work and provide effective leadership to deliver high-impact programs.
- The Regional Manager will need to demonstrate excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational and communication skills. He must be able to work independently and be personally committed to producing results. The successful candidate does not need to have prior expertise in malaria or neglected tropical diseases, but must have the ability to quickly assimilate new concepts and be comfortable communicating them to a technical audience. Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to build relationships in a challenging multicultural environment will be essential. He will need strong team management and leadership skills and the ability to facilitate high-level strategic discussions with a range of multicultural and multidisciplinary stakeholders.
