Arriving at the Gustave Roussy regional cancer center in 2016, in Villejuif in Val-de-Marne, Doctor Ines Vaz Luis, 44, is a leading authority in her field.

A medical oncologist, the researcher is at the head of the Interval medical-scientific program, which focuses on post-cancer with the objective of better identifying and preventing toxicities linked to treatments. She is also the director of the group Cancer Survivorship in Inserm unit U981 and Deputy Head of the interdisciplinary patient pathway organization department (DIOPP).

At the national level, she co-directs the scientific development of studies linked to the CANTO cohort (CANcer TOxicities), which is also interested in the toxicities developed in women treated for localized breast cancer, in order to identify the populations most likely to develop them, and to adapt treatment accordingly and thus reduce the after-effects.

Globally recognized skills

She also leads the development of the WeShare digital platform, a shared, dynamic, integrated, patient-centered national research infrastructure led by Unicancer, to accelerate the decentralization of research in oncology, and particularly on cancer in the human and social sciences. .

His research is particularly innovative in the sense that it does not focus only on the disease but also, and above all, on the patient and the human. With the help of artificial intelligence, the researcher explored areas hitherto little highlighted, such as fatigue linked to treatments, the reduction of toxicities and the importance of resuming social and professional life after disease.

A scientific approach which earned her the International women who conquer cancer mentorship award, presented during the World Cancer Congress currently being held in Chicago.

This price “recognizes women in oncology who are leaders, role models and mentors to other women training to become doctors, teachers or researchers in oncology”explains Conquer Cancer, the Asco foundation which awards this prize.
