Saint-Céré. Mountain biking, hiking, news: the city teams up against cancer

No less than 550 sports participants for the Pink October day for the benefit of the League against Cancer, which was held in Saint-Céré on Sunday October 13! “We didn’t expect such a turnout”, rejoiced Christelle, on Sunday morning, in front of the 98 mountain bikers who came to have their fill after a hike in support of the first pink day of Saint-Céré and Saint-Laurent-les- . In the afternoon, 140 walkers did the 4 km hike, and 302 were there for the 9 km. “We didn’t expect it because it’s new. We didn’t dare believe it.”

Installed on Place de la République, the stands are decorated with balloon crowns, pancakes prepared by the twinning committee are sold, and badges, bracelets, cards, umbrellas… All the organizers wore the famous t-shirt on which the breast shape. Christelle joins the mountain bikers for a little humorous and daring reminder of their obligations: “Do you know that you have your role to play, gentlemen? Because, who among you is best placed to look at Madame’s chest?” And to detail in detail all the warning signs which can allow intervention through timely screening. “We’ll look at that closely,” we joke.

The smile is there, but everyone is mobilized because they are well aware of the seriousness of the subject, one in two women detecting their tumor themselves. “Is there an age?” they question. “I had cancer at 42.” A scourge that concerns us all, both men and women: “Last year, I had testicular cancer”, “I lost my mother to cancer. What they do, It’s for a good cause.”

Today, the team of volunteers is very mobilized in complementary areas: research, major political bodies, schools: “In colleges, we also intervene on addictions such as alcohol and drugs, food and screens” so that everyone knows the risks. “What was before a punishment now becomes our lifestyle: going to bed early, eating fruit and vegetables, moving around, doing sport, and fewer chips and sausages!”

There was the League against Cancer stand, which sold objects and t-shirts, caps, and the twinning committee made pancakes for the benefit of the League.
