In China, a woman with a double uterus gave birth to healthy twins. The case of didelphus uterus is extremely rare. This malformation only affects around 0.05% of women.

Twins evolved in two different wombs

In September, Ms. Li, a woman with a rare abnormality, gave birth to twins in Chine. Already a mother of three children, she welcomed a girl and a boy, who grew up in two different wombs. This extremely rare case captured the attention of doctors, who followed this atypical pregnancy up close.

A pregnancy under close supervision

During the first ultrasound, doctors found that the two embryos were developing in separate uterine cavities. Due to thedidelphus uterusthe pregnancy was considered at risk. As a result, Ms. Li benefited from increased medical monitoring. Born in September, after eight and a half months of waiting, the two babies weighed 3.2 kg and 2.4 kg. They are in good health.

A case “extremely rare”

L’didelphus uterus is a congenital malformation which only affects about 0.05% of women worldwide. What makes Ms. Li’s case even rarer is that both of her uteruses accommodated two pregnancies independent at the same time. In addition, this mother was able to carry them to term even though she had already experienced a miscarriage.
