the essential
Assisting a sick person in everyday life sometimes requires superhuman efforts. At Alzheimer, we lend a helping hand to these shadow heroes who are the caregivers.

One million… This was the approximate number of people suffering from a neurodegenerative disease on national soil in 2018. INSERM does not provide recent figures, but estimates that 225,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. And if we are to believe the WHO, the number of cases of Alzheimer’s is expected to double in 2050. Physically and emotionally, the task of a caregiver faced with such a case is exhausting. If he is not supported by a professional or an association, the accumulated stress most often leads to burnout.

This is where France Alzheimer comes in. Among its many missions, the training of medico-social professionals and volunteers; a lifeline for the latter, who are gradually distraught by the illness of the person in their care. Because it is essential for them to relieve stress and regain energy, the local branch of the association offers, among other things, sophrology workshops, most often bimonthly.

Benevolent and targeted action

In Lannemezan, these courses are held in the Nebouzan room, are taught by a professional sophrologist, and start with a collective exchange, where speech is freed and allows us to take stock. We then move on to practice: “I provide tools through different breathing, relaxation, relaxation and visualization exercises,” indicates sophrologist Brigitte Mezino, “which allows caregivers to become aware of their difficulties, to re-appropriate these tools and use them in their daily lives.”

Little by little, through practice and reiteration, the harmfulness of disturbing thoughts will take on less and less space. This flexibility, this inner calm, is obtained by techniques of great simplicity, which are similar to Zen and hypnosis, within everyone’s reach, and with total empathy. By recovering the perception of the different areas of his body, the student is able to seek within himself the resources necessary to move towards this well-being.

Please note that the modest annual membership to France Alzheimer gives access to these workshops which are entirely supported by the association.
