Côte-Nord: hypnosis to soothe mental health

During this National Mental Health Week, there is every reason to remind people that it is important to take care of yourself and ask for help when you need it. These sources of help can be translated in several ways, including one that is still little known, hypnosis.

It is in its space located on Lasalle Boulevard in Baie-Comeau that The Manic met Cathy Dufour, hypnotherapist.

Formerly a laboratory technician at Le Royer hospital, Ms. Dufour became interested in this old medicine a few years ago and learned it well in order to offer it in the Côte-Nord region.

A certified hypnotherapist for 7 years, she helps her clients with hypnosis techniques that allow them “to feel better,” she explains.

“In a state of relaxation, we slow down the brain waves which are at the same wavelength as when we were a child,” summarizes Ms. Dufour.

This way allows “to make corrections,” she adds.

These wounds, thoughts or defense mechanisms have developed over time and can be “deprogrammed” for the benefit of the patient.

The clientele of the hypnosis specialist often consists of people with an anxiety and/or depressive disorder.

The repercussions of the pandemic

Cathy Dufour sees the devastation that the pandemic has caused in recent years. Loneliness, social exclusion, the feeling of rejection and powerlessness have had devastating effects, according to her, on society as a whole.

Some people developed fears and mental health problems after this difficult period. “We haven’t seen the end of it,” she believes.

Working in collaboration with other therapists such as psychologists, social workers, osteopaths, acupuncturists and massage therapists, hypnosis makes it possible to refine a therapy or even to be the main therapy for some.

Ms. Dufour personalizes each of her meetings and also offers sound therapy workshops with Dr. Ion Rotari, formerly a psychiatrist, twice a week.

Anxiety, anxiety, phobias (simple or complex), eating disorders, OCD, addictions, various emotional problems, insomnia, hypersomnia and physical pain are also various problems that Cathy Dufour can soothe through hypnosis.
