Arriving in 2012, the tiger mosquito is now present in 1,070 municipalities in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, 261 of which will be colonized in 2023. Due to the epidemic situation in the Antilles, the number of cases of arboviruses (diseases transmitted by mosquitoes) exploded last year with 252 imported cases (compared to 41 cases in 2022). These cases gave rise to 51 adulticide treatments in ARA, including 23 in the Rhône.

The mosquito that bites you is often born in your garden

Each year, to limit the establishment of the tiger mosquito and prevent the risk of transmission of diseases of which it can be the vector (dengue, chikungunya, Zika), the Regional Health Agency sets up reinforced surveillance from May 1 to 30. november.

To prevent its proliferation, it is recommended that all residents store, empty and cover objects containing water: cups, used tires, toys, rainwater collectors, garden furniture, unmaintained swimming pools, tarpaulins, bulky. Living within a radius of 150 meters around the laying site, the mosquito that bites you is most often born in your garden or nearby.

The ARS also invites travelers in intertropical zones, particularly in Martinique and Guadeloupe where there is a dengue epidemic, to follow health recommendations: during your stay, protect yourself as much as possible against tiger mosquito bites (covering, loose clothing, light color, mosquito net, etc.); on site and on return: at the slightest symptom, consult a doctor, telling them about your recent stay.
