While a year ago, almost to the day, Jon Rahm had given in to the sirens of petrodollars promised by Saudi Arabia to join LIV Golf, one of his promising compatriots did not hesitate to reject the offer of Greg Norman's circuit.
On December 7 of last year, the Basque Jon Rahm, who had declared a few months earlier that he was not interested in money and wanted to become a legend in his sport, did not resist the incredible proposal of the PIF.
A decision which dealt a very heavy blow to historic circuits.
A year later, while rumors are once again starting to shake up the golf world, a young player would have refused to join the circuit financed by the PIF and ironically it is still a Spaniard.
It is the Iberian site Ten Golf which explains that the LIV would have transmitted to Angel Ayora a two-year proposal to join Martin Kaymer's Cleeks GC team to replace Kalle Samooja. The Finnish golfer lost his place due to poor results and the German captain of the team in which Richard Bland and Adrian Meronk also play, tried without success to attract the young pro.
Gambling rather than money
To explain his choice to continue the adventure on the DP World Tour, where he has just obtained a playing right by finishing 4th in the season on the Challenge Tour, he would have declared not to chase money and favor competition.
Words which are reminiscent of those of Ludvig Åberg, he also approached several people through LIV last year.
Born October 3, 2004 Angel Ayora learned to play on the course of La Cañada Golf Club (San Roque). He benefits from the advice of Javier Ballesteros, Seve's son, and won his first Challenge Tour tournament in Poland at the beginning of September before placing 2nd in the Rolex Grand Final at the Alcanada Golf Club in Mallorca.
During the first tournaments of the new DP World Tour season, he just finished 6th in the BMW Australian PGA Championship and 23rd at the Australian Open.
Also note that last March, still aged 19, for his first appearance in a tournament of the PGA Tour in Puerto Rico, he managed to make the cut.
