“I didn’t think it was possible to make myself look so much like Charles. I didn’t want to wear a mask or be overly made up because it stifles any human reaction, (…) it prevents emotions from being conveyed.”

Eight hours of singing

Katia Aznavour, the daughter of Charles Aznavour, but also the wife of Jean-Rachid Kallouche, the producer of the film, was troubled by the resemblance between the actor and her father:

“(She) told me that when she looked at me she saw her father, it gave me wings. We understood at that moment that we were going in the right direction. Before that, I was full of doubts because Charles and I, we don’t look alike…”

Tahar Rahim himself will sing in the film. “I did eight hours of singing per week for six months,” he explained before specifying that he had improved during this preparatory work: “We re-recorded songs that I had already recorded!”
