NARDO’ (Lecce) – Food grown in a healthy way, respect for the environment and health, recovery of ancient local production traditions, citizens who are builders of united communities capable of self-sustaining and self-determination. “Food is health” is the slogan of the fourth edition of “Legumi in Festa” which will be held in the historic center of Nardò (Lecce) on 26 and 27 October, with a preview scheduled for Friday 25.

Through meetings, round tables and rural dialogues with experts and teachers, various environmental issues will be addressed, including good wastewater recovery practices to provide answers to the complex problem of drought. Witnesses of community projects that “made it” and, from Lazio, some representatives of the “Biodistrict of the Bracciano and Martignano lakes” will talk about their experience.

«You will be able to hear the voice of those who have chosen viable paths and achieved good results. Dissemination activities, training sessions and a market of selected products – declare the “Verdesalis” association – will allow us to better understand the concept of “Food is health”. In times of demographic crisis in Puglia and Salento, our objective is also to provide local administrators with some more tools to address dramatically current issues such as the abandonment of lands and countryside, the decline in births and emigration .

But our invitation to participate in “Legumi in festa” is obviously addressed to everyone, without distinction: to the citizens of Nardò and Salento, to tourists and visitors, to the new generations, to Italian and foreign young people, some of whom have followed a dissemination-training path as part of the project “Agroecology for widespread well-being: practices on ecosystems and new community economic processes”, aimed at creating job and self-employment opportunities”.

“Legumes in celebration” is an event created and organized in 2016 by the aps Verdesalis, based in Nardò, to promote the gastronomic tradition of the Arneo area. Over the years it has become a valid opportunity to compare administrators, farmers, professionals and personalities from the academic and scientific world around the topics of the environment, natural agriculture, food and agroecology.
