The mayor of Amiens, Brigitte Fouré, announces her resignation in favor of her first deputy

To everyone’s surprise, Brigitte Fouré, mayor (Union of Democrats and Independents, UDI) of the city of () since 2014, announced, Monday October 7, that she was ending her mandate to hand over to Hubert de Jenlis , his first deputy.

“I will soon be 70 years old, and it is time to pass the torch to a new generation, full of the same passion that I have always had for Amiens”explains Mme Furé in a press release.

“I have decided to entrust the future of our city to Hubert de Jenlis” et “I will therefore propose his name to an extraordinary municipal council which will meet very soon to confirm this decision”she added, while this announcement was made less than two years before the next municipal elections.

The next mayor moved from the UDI to La République en Marche

Brigitte Fouré said she would remain a municipal councilor, 2e vice-president of Amiens metropolis and first vice-president of the Hauts-de- region.

Municipal councilor since 1989, she had already been mayor of the Picardy capital from 2002 to 2007 when the incumbent, Gilles de Robien, was minister. She was also a European MP in 2008-2009.

Hubert de Jenlis, 56, has been an insurance agent for twenty-eight years in Amiens, where he is from. Together candidate during the legislative elections, he started in politics by joining the Radical Party in 2006 then participated in the creation of the UDI in 2012. In 2018, he left the UDI to join La République en marche, the party created by Emmanuel Macron before the 2017 presidential election.
