Christophe Béchu (Horizons): “If Michel Barnier fails, it’s the boulevard for the extremes”

“I don’t know of any support that is unconditional”, declared on TF1 Christophe Béchu, the secretary general of Horizons – the party of Edouard Philippe – about the position of his political party towards the government of Michel Barnier.

However, he added, the Prime Minister appears “pro-European”, “attached to decentralization”et “considers that there is a need for order in the accounts and in the streets”either “exactly the Horizons line”he congratulated himself. “If Michel Barnier fails, this is the avenue for the extremes and for Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Marine Le Pen to come face to face,” warned Mr. Béchu.

In the middle of the budgetary debate, he considered it impossible, “in the context in which we find ourselves”to return to pension reform. He also reacted to the refusal expressed yesterday by the president of the Local Finance Committee, André Laignel, of all the saving measures requested by the government from communities, for an amount of 5 billion euros.

“We cannot say that we do not accept any saving measures”, Otherwise “we are entering a form of irresponsibility”judged Mr. Béchu, who on the other hand demands respect for a certain « justice » in the way in which effort is distributed.

The head of Horizons also indicated that the party is actively preparing the next presidential election, and is working on a commission for the nomination of candidates for the legislative elections. The designation of “national thematic secretaries” is also announced in the coming weeks.
