In a press release published this Tuesday, October 8, the LFI – NFP parliamentary group announced the exclusion of MP Hugo Prevost, accused of sexual violence.

Hugo Prevost, the deputy who beat former minister Olivier Véran during the legislative elections last July, was excluded from the LFI/NFP group for acts of sexual violence.

“On September 23, 2024, the parliamentary group was contacted by the Vigilance Committee against sexist and sexual violence (CVSS) of La insoumise concerning serious acts of a sexual nature which could be criminal offenses, prior to its election, accused to MP Hugo Prevost,” explains the press release published on the party’s social networks.

LFI provides support to victims

A few days later, on October 2, the 24-year-old from was interviewed on the alleged facts. “It emerged from this hearing, as well as from elements of the file compiled by the CVSS in support of several testimonies, that the seriousness of the alleged facts and their systemic nature required the parliamentary group to be contacted so that it could impose a sanction” , we can read.

This Tuesday, October 8, the sentence therefore fell: the deputy is excluded, in accordance with the principles of the charter signed by the LFI-NFP candidates in the legislative elections which commit to defending “feminist” values and “to combat sexist and sexual violence ”.

The La France insoumise group concludes its press release by reiterating its “unwavering” commitment to the fight against violence against women and affirms its support for the victims.

“A desire for sexual and political control of women”

Insoumise France was shaken at the end of 2022 by the affair of deputy Adrien Quatennens, convicted of domestic violence, who joined the benches of the National Assembly barely a month after his conviction. The LFI group had temporarily excluded him for four months, but several members of the movement had denounced his return to it.

The Student Union, which Hugo Prévost co-founded, reports for its part in a long press release having collected “testimonies” reporting “acts of moral and sexual harassment, patterns of predation, serious criminal acts reprehensible to sexual character.

These facts “stretch over a period from 2020 to 2024 and would have continued after the departure of Hugo Prevost from the national team (…) in March”, adds the student organization which denounces “a desire for sexual control and women’s politics. The organization adds that “the majority of the facts (…) had been known to some for several months or even several years.” She demands that “justice be done” and urges the MP to “resign from his mandate”.
