On display in Paris, the horse from the opening ceremony seduces nostalgics

REPORTAGE – Installed until September 8 at the Hôtel de Ville, the metal horse that galloped on the Seine during the opening ceremony of the Games attracts Parisians and tourists, reluctant to let the “enthusiasm” of the Olympic events die down.

Yaël, 8, is smiling delightedly. His cheeks covered in tricolor flags, the little boy carefully handles his father’s cell phone to take a photo of himself on the forecourt of Paris City Hall. In the background, a massive horse, made entirely of aluminum, frozen in full gallop. It is “Zeus”, the metal masterpiece that split the waters of the Seine for six kilometers to the Eiffel Tower during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games on July 26.

The silver animal is on display from this Thursday until September 8 in the heart of Paris. To the delight of the many visitors who have been passing by at a rate of one hundred every quarter of an hour since the early afternoon, in order to admire it up close “the big magic horse”smiles Yaël. A sold-out exhibition: the 30,000 or so tickets to access it were gone in a few hours, as soon as the ticket office opened.
