Formula 1 | Incheon has submitted a request for an F1 Grand Prix in Korea

The South Korean city of Incheon has submitted a letter of intent to Formula 1 regarding the organization of a new race on a street circuit, perhaps as early as 2026.

Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok met F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali at the Japanese Grand Prix to deliver the letter; which has only been revealed in recent hours.

The district of Incheon, close to the Korean capital Seoul, wishes to host an urban race with a date for its first edition in 2027 or even 2026.

The race is expected to be known as the Incheon F1 Grand Prix, as opposed to the Korean Grand Prix which took place from 2010 to 2013 at a circuit in Yeongam.

“Incheon is the best place to host F1, as it has a transportation network such as Incheon Airport and Port and many luxury accommodations,” confided Jeong-bok in April.

“We will begin large-scale discussions to host F1 in Incheon.”

The Korean Grand Prix was on the F1 calendar for four years, with Sebastian Vettel winning three editions, before the event became unprofitable and organizers no longer wished to host the race.

Madrid has already been confirmed as a new race in 2026, taking to the streets of the Spanish capital, with the future of the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona therefore uncertain.

No new races are planned for the 2025 calendar, the calendar being already full with a record of 24 races organized over 40 weeks.
