Formula 1 | Lawson hails Ricciardo’s fair play: ‘He helped me a lot’

Liam Lawson will replace Daniel Ricciardo next weekend in Austin at RB F1, and the New Zealander was keen to salute the good spirit of the Australian driver. Indeed, he reveals that Ricciardo helped him as a mentor throughout the year, although they were competing for a seat.

“With Daniel, it never felt like we were competing for the same thing, although I think we were. It was never the case. So there are a lot of things that he could have not done and to which he could have said no, but he didn’t do it.” said Lawson, who was already aware in Singapore of what was going on, like Ricciardo.

“Honestly, he’s helped me a lot over the last twelve months. And he’s been very good about the whole situation in Singapore, and I think we both knew how it was going to go when all this happened, and in the media. And that’s honestly why I wasn’t on my phone too much.”

However, Lawson doesn’t watch social media and focuses on things more important to him: “It’s not something that’s bothering me too much. I’ve got a lot of things I need to focus on, obviously for the last six races, and that’s honestly what I’ve been doing.”

“I don’t really have the capacity to do everything else. If I spent the day on my phone and actively looked at everything that was posted, I would probably feel a little different. But I tried to avoid doing so.”
