Forever the first. Jodie Grinham didn’t break a world record or achieve a traditional sporting feat, but she did something even more moving. Seven months pregnant, she won the bronze medal in Paris, a first in the Paralympic Games.

At 31, the British para-archer narrowly beat compatriot Phoebe Paterson Pine to claim her second Paralympic medal after silver in the mixed doubles in Rio.

After the race, Jodie Grinham told The Athletic of her pride and described the moment she felt the baby move. “I’m very proud of myself. I’ve had my struggles and it’s not been easy. “But as long as I’m healthy and the baby is healthy, I knew we could compete.”

She also added, “The baby kept kicking! It was like, ‘What’s going on? It’s really loud! Mommy, what are you doing?’” “But it reminded me that inside my belly, I had a bubble of support.”
