Bernard Hinault is a cycling legend, winner of five Tours de France. Cyrille Guimard was his mentor for seven years, the sporting director of his team. Together, these two Bretons with strong characters have written one of the most beautiful pages of French sport. Ouest-France brought them together for a casual conversation.
Gathered in Rennes, at the headquarters of Ouest-France, on the occasion of Bernard Hinault's 70th birthday, the former runner and Cyrille Guimard did not remake the world. But the two former accomplices from the Renault years spoke of their collaboration at the time when French cycling dictated its law on the cycling planet. Thanks to their unique know-how. The anecdotes abounded, the laughter too, proof that these two were made to succeed together for seven years, from 1976 to 1983. Between them, they won four Grandes Boucles, two Tours of Italy and two Tours of Spain. Since those years, no French cyclist has performed so well. And since 1985, no Tricolore has won the Tour de France.
