Second edition of Bourges Bike Night, this Friday November 15, organized by Mon Cher Vélo. Departure from the cathedral square at 6 p.m.
The Mon Cher Vélo association is organizing the second edition of its Bourges Bike Night, as part of the national “Cycliste Brillez” campaign supported by the FUB, the French Federation of Bicycle Users.
This campaign, supported by the Road Safety Department, offers awareness-raising actions on the importance of bicycle lighting. It extends from 1?? November, to December 15. A not insignificant launch date: “it always occurs just after the time change, because we unfortunately realize that they are more in danger at this period when night falls earlier”, explains Bernard Grivel, president of Mon Dear bike.
For this second edition, the meeting is given at 6 p.m. on the square in front of the cathedral, for a departure in the city at 7 p.m. An all-terrain route of 7.5 kilometers, “to show the interest of seeing well in addition to being seen well, specifies the president of the association, passing through the Marais, and reaching the bicycle house”, in the Bigarelles district.
Lighting, the key to safety
The association will supervise the walk on this short route: “the main thing for us is to see the cyclists, and to tell them the importance of being well lit”. From 6 p.m., in partnership with road safety, Mon Cher Vélo will check cyclists' lighting, and will distribute reflective devices and some lighting. “Some bikes will even be decorated with Christmas garlands”, optional equipment added on occasion to the list of essentials to be safe at night:
- a fixed (non-flashing) yellow or white front light
- red lighting at the rear
- light clothes and a reflective vest (recommended)
Last year, the event brought together more than a hundred people, even though it was raining. Mon Cher Vélo plans to attract even more people this Friday in dry weather. The race will end around pancakes at the Maison du Vélo, recently named Coop du Vélo.
