“On a bike, everything is more beautiful” we could read during the last meeting of the Pays d’Olmes cycling club which was held in the Montferrier entertainment room. But before getting on the bike (later transformed by a delicious meal) nearly 90 members had an extraordinary session then the usual general meeting. Firstly, it was necessary to modify the statutes dating from 1996 to bring them into compliance with the regulations. This was followed by the reading of the ethical charter entitled “Friendship, conviviality, solidarity and tolerance”. For the first Ariège club with its 160 licensees and the 5th in the region, president Jean Escaich did not hide his joy at the enthusiasm of the members who find themselves numerous during the weekly outings and also numerous during the club’s events.

For his part, Guy Gallardo highlighted the dangers of the road, recalling that five members of the club had had an accident, fortunately not serious. Another satisfaction of the office is the growing number of women who take the license. In addition, 44 took up electric cycling while children from the Jeanne d’Arc school in Lavelanet learned the joys of this discipline with the help of five trainers from the club. Perhaps there is a future champion among them, like Julian Alaphilippe, who, in the meantime, can participate in club events. Satisfaction on the sporting side but also with healthy finances as highlighted by treasurer Alain Gailly before the renewal of the outgoing third of the board of directors and the 2025 projects. Gérard Nicolas, the deputy mayor of Montferrier, said he was delighted to welcome a such assembly while Claude Dés, on behalf of the town hall of Laroque-d’Olmes, renewed his support by lending rooms and producing documents.
