I am the fruit of a popular culture which took off in the 90s and which has established itself over the decades as the dominant culture. Video games, cinema, manga, anime, comics, comics, literature, series… I am eager to learn and explore the imaginations available to me, regardless of the media.

The debut of a new Dragon Ball animated series may call into question everything we knew about this universe imagined by the late Akira Toriyama sensei 40 years ago. Is Daima canon in the saga? If so, how does it fit in without upsetting everything? A graph now makes it clearer.

The Dragon Ball timeline finally explained

Dragon Ball Daima could make a stir in the world’s most popular franchise. The addition of a new animated series does not always go smoothly and causes upheavals in an established chronology, but which may be subject to change. Daima takes place after the Dragon Ball Z animated series, and more precisely after the Boo arc, and before Dragon Ball Super. The case of Dragon Ball GT is special. Akira Toriyama did not officiate on this project. The anime may therefore not be considered “canon”, even if in fact, the events recounted take place after DBZ just like Daima.

The Dragon Ball anime is the “Ground Zero” of the franchise, where it all began. Then come Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Daima, Dragon Ball Super and finally the films Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. The TV Special “Dragon Ball Z: Baddack vs. Frieza” takes place before Dragon Ball. Finally, the apocalyptic future depicted in the cyborg arc is an alternate timeline linked to DBZ. The other OAVs (for Original ANimation Video) are not necessarily canon in the saga. The graphic below provided by @DB_Simplemente on X (formerly Twitter) clarifies the Dragon Ball timeline.
