Beaten at home last year, Cat Ferguson set the record straight on the 2024 World Championships in Zurich. Already titled in the time trial on Tuesday, the Briton was crowned in the road race this Thursday.

Cat Ferguson (18 years old) won the title among Junior Women to 2024 World Championships road cycling Zurich. At the end of the day’s 73.5 kilometers in pouring rain, the Briton finished in a sprint Paula Ostiz (Spain) and Viktória Chladoňová (Slovakia). Célia Gery () took 5th place almost a minute from victory.

A very quick start in the rain

The start of the road race was given at 10 a.m. 2024 World Championships road cycling among Junior Women this Thursday at Uster. In pouring rain, we didn’t have to wait long before the first fall, in a roundabout, which notably involved the Frenchwoman Melanie Dupin. The Netherlands and Germany immediately took the lead and set the pace to avoid having a too grouped peloton.

The favorites isolate themselves quickly

While theGermany and the Great Britain were very insistent, a group of favorites broke away from the peloton around sixty kilometers from the finish. So, Cat Ferguson (Great Britain), Célia Gery (France), Megan Arens (The Netherlands), Paula Ostiz (Spain), or Eleona La Berra (Italy) took the lead. Despite everything, a group came from behind at the start of the last lap.

A trio towards a sprint for the title of World Champion

In the Witikon (1.9 km at 6.3%), Viktória Chladoňová (Slovakia) set a very strong pace which caused suffering Megan Arens, Imogen Wolff, Giada Silo or even the French Célia Gery. Alone Paula Ostiz (Spain) and Cat Ferguson (Great Britain) managed to follow the frantic train of the Slovak. If Chladoňová tried on a few occasions to distance his opponents, it was ultimately a sprint which took place at Zurich. In this little game, Cat Ferguson was the fastest.
