Camping in the bed of your light truck

Indeed, we are talking here about what is commonly called pick-up. It would therefore be possible to convert into a camper. Provided you own a Chevrolet Silverado 1500, a Ford 50, a GMC Sierra 1500 or a Ram 1500. Roadloft recommends those from model years 2019 and younger — 2020 in the case of the F- 150 —, all provided with a box six feet long.

“Assemblies to transform the interior of a dumpster pick-upwe don’t see that, both in North America and in the rest of the world. We did our research,” says Laurence Dufour, president and co-founder of Roadloft, who describes her product as revolutionary in the camper world.

“Often, we see solutions overland with roof top tents or large carried campers. We offer an alternative solution which is much more discreet and which goes more incognito.”

Indeed, from the outside, the truck with the fiberglass box looks like any… truck with a fiberglass box. Moreover, the latter can be any model offered on the market, as long as it has a raised roof. Roadloft recommends a model that has this specificity with windows and a nicer finish inside.

No tools needed

“Not only are we launching the kit to pick-upbut we are also launching a revolution in terms of assembly,” continues Laurence Dufour. “We want to offer the ready-to-assemble kit, a kit DIY for customers.”

Roadloft offers prefabricated panels, preassembled and delivered flat. “With our clip system, we really launched an innovation. It can be installed without screws, without glue, without nails and without tools. Simply with our hands,” she describes.

This results in a camper whose boxes can be installed and removed in a few minutes in the vehicle. “We are able to transform our vehicle into a camper quickly,” says the president of the company.

The set offered by Roadloft includes three sliding kitchen drawers; two swivel tables; multiple storage spaces; a Murphy bed; a modular bench seat, as well as a 3.5-inch thick sectional mattress.

Solution «abordable»

Laurence Dufour emphasizes that this set is intended to be very affordable, if we compare with the different solutions offered on the market. The kit is offered at $5,000, before taxes. The recommended box of fiberglass costs approximately $4,000.

“All in all, that’s a camper for around $9,000. We calculated that and it comes to one twentieth of the price,” concludes Laurence Dufour.

The company is offering a $1,000 rebate to the first 10 buyers of its light truck package, on sale since Friday. Then, Roadloft is dropping its price by $500 until November 15.
