The speculation surrounding a possible transfer of Wout van Aert is over. The Belgian rider has signed a contract until the end of his career with the Visma-Lease a Bike team.

Uncommon in cycling. Wout van Aert (29 years old) signed a contract with the team Visma-Lease a Bike until the end of his career. While his contract expired at the end of 2026, the Belgian is now tied to the Dutch team for “life”. “It’s unique in our sport, but we didn’t have to think about it for long”said Richard Pluggethe boss of Visma-Lease a Bike.

Arrived in 2019 during the season, Wout van Aert quickly made his mark with major successes on the Tour de or even on Milan-Sanremo. A fan of the classics, the Belgian has always missed the boat on the big events until now. And if he often has carte blanche throughout the season, van Aert is also regularly used as a “super-teammate” with Jonas Vingegaardamong others. A role that has suited him well for 5 years now.

Wout van Aert to stay at Visma-Lease a Bike for life

“I didn’t have to think long when this idea came to me, added Wout van Aert. First of all because at Visma-Lease a Bike we work with the best people and the best equipment. Together we are constantly looking to improve, which means that we continue to develop individually but also as a team. I owe a lot of success to that, we really do it together. But apart from that, I feel very comfortable in this team, which is very important to me. This team is unique and has suited me for five years and I want it to stay that way. That is why I decided to stay here forever, and it feels really good.

Richard Pluggethe boss of Visma-Lease a Bikecontinued: “Wout van Aert is of course a fantastic rider with an exceptional palmares. He is an all-rounder: sprinter, classics rider, time trialist and, on his best days, he also wins a mountain stage like the famous victory on Mont Ventoux in the Tour de France.”

“But besides that, Wout has really become an important vector of culture, an indispensable link in our team. He is a leader and a team player. He is a rider who also makes the others in the team better, simply by his insight and charisma. We are extremely happy with him and fortunately it is reciprocal.”he finished.
