A health system has been put in place since the resurgence of cases was noted in certain countries in the sub-region, after the return of pilgrims from the 2024 Hajj.

“This system has made it possible to record to date, June 28, 2024, 25 cases of Covid-19 out of 619 travelers sampled (PCR), or 4% of positive cases and 0 deaths,” indicates the Ivorian Ministry of Health, Public Hygiene and Universal Health Coverage.

According to the Ministry of Health, “this rate is below the disease control threshold. Positive cases are isolated and monitored, with strict observance of barrier measures, in accordance with the national strategy to combat Covid-19.”

The Ministry of Health also denounces the circulation on social networks of an article followed by a message attributed to the WHO and official health services, reporting an epidemic of Covid-19 -Omicron XBB, five times more dangerous than the Delta variant, with a higher mortality rate.

“These malicious messages, likely to sow doubt and fear among the population, are indeed fake news,” declared the Ministry of Health, which insisted that an information and health control system had been put in place to prevent any risk of the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

With these proven cases of infection, the Ministry of Health recommends systematic screening for Covid-19 in affected people and their entourage, as well as wearing a mask and washing hands with soap and water.

In the event of a positive test, consultation and treatment will be provided free of charge in the nearest health centers, reassures the Ministry of Health, which invites vulnerable people to get vaccinated and observe barrier measures.
