A fatal collision between a van and a heavy goods vehicle forced the closure of Highway 155 in both directions Wednesday evening.

According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the collision occurred at kilometre 193, halfway between the municipality of La Tuque and Lac Saint-Jean.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., a pickup truck traveling north on Route 155 veered off course and collided with a heavy-duty truck carrying wood traveling in the opposite direction. The heavy-duty truck subsequently caught fire.

According to police, the driver of the van was pronounced dead by emergency services at the scene of the accident. The driver of the truck was transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

A police officer trained in collision investigation has been dispatched to the scene to establish the causes and circumstances of this incident.indicated the spokesperson for the SQ, Nicolas Scholtus, in the evening.
