It’s back to normal this Thursday in the libraries of Quebec City. After three months of disruption caused by the strike of employees of the Canadian Institute, the 26 branches are once again open according to their usual schedule.

Users can therefore resume borrowing books, reserving them using the website and returning them.

All cultural programming services and activities will gradually resume over the next few weeks.

Book clubs

Reading clubs for young people are offered starting Thursday in the Gabrielle-Roy, Monique-Corriveau, Étienne-Parent and Félix-Leclerc libraries. They will be in all establishments from July 2.

The City of Quebec has announced that reading awareness activities will return on July 8. Storytimes will resume in libraries and nearby parks.

Creative workshops for the family will also be offered by reservation.

End of the strike

This resumption of activities comes a little less than two weeks after the end of the strike by employees of the Canadian Institute of Quebec, the organization mandated by the City to manage its library network.

On June 14, union members accepted the employer’s offer in a proportion of 52%.

Since the start of the labor dispute on March 1, only three libraries remained accessible to citizens. However, they were open with reduced hours and services.
