The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) announced on Friday the death of one of its employees in the northern West Bank. He was shot dead by “a sniper” during an Israeli military operation while he was on the roof of his house. “This is the first time that an UNRWA employee has been killed in the West Bank in more than ten years,” it stressed.

UNRWA in mourning again. The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees announced on Friday, September 13, the death of one of its employees in the northern West Bank, “killed on the roof of his house by a sniper” during an Israeli military operation.

The Israeli army launched a major military offensive at the end of August against Palestinian armed groups fighting against Israel from the northern West Bank, a Palestinian territory occupied by Israel for 57 years.

Several dozen Palestinians, including several members of armed groups, but also civilians, adolescents and elderly people, were killed in this operation, according to Palestinian sources.

On Friday, UNRWA said in a statement that Sofiane Jaber Abed Jawwad was killed during the night from Wednesday to Thursday in the Faraa refugee camp.

Asked by AFP, the Israeli army did not immediately react to UNRWA’s announcement.
