The Santos Tour Down Under 2025 promises to be exciting with an exceptional line-up for the first WorldTour race of the cycling season. THE 18 WorldTeams will be at the start, accompanied by two invited teams: Israel-Premier Tech and the Australian national team.

The favorites in the general classification

Stephen Williams (Israel – Premier Tech), winner in 2024, puts his title back on the line with the support of Michael Woods. Jayco AlUla will count on Luke Plapp, three-time Australian champion, and Mauro Schmid, both ready to shine on their home soil. At UAE Team Emirates, Jhonatan Narvaez et Jay Vine winner in 2023, will also aim for the ocher jersey. INEOS Grenadiers are fielding former Tour de winner Geraint Thomas for what could be his final season.

A startlist and sprinters

Sam Welsford (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) arrives as favorite after three stage victories last year. He will be accompanied by Danny van Poppel et Laurence Pithie. Bryan Coquard (Cofidis) also targets sprints, just like Nikias Arndt (Bahrain Victorious), Arne Marit (Intermarché-Wanty) and Tobias Lund Andresen (Picnic PostNL).

French runners at the start

Paul Lapeira (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale), champion of France, will be present, supported by Dorian Godon et Bastien Tronchon. Rémy Rochas (Groupama-FDJ) hopes to create a surprise on the emblematic slopes of Willunga Hill.

The Australian team arrives with solid ambitions. Luke Plapp, revenge after abandoning in 2024, and Mauro Schmid will lead a complete training with Michael Hepburn, Luke Durbridge and Chris Harper. New Zealand sprinter Campbell Stewart completes the squad, wearing a new jersey by MAAP.

An anniversary edition

This 25th edition promises to be unforgettable with varied stages: from Prospect to Gumeracha, via the climbs of Willunga and a spectacular finale in the center of Adelaide. Race director Stuart O'Grady predicts intense competition between the world's best climbers and sprinters. The Santos Tour Down Under 2025 will be one to watch closely with an expected duel between Stephen Williams and Jay Vine, without forgetting outsiders like Geraint Thomas and local talents. A perfect race to kick off the cycling season in style.
