“It became an obligation”, Sonia Dubois looks back on her impressive weight loss in the 1990s

Shortly after her television debut, Sonia Dubois changed her body shape by losing 60kg. Her highly publicized weight loss turned her career upside down.

Former television personality Sonia Dubois was recently a guest on the podcast T’été où? She talks about her long career, thirty years in television service in front of and behind the camera as columnist, channel manager, editor-in-chief… many of the positions she has held. Propelled overnight to television with Christine Bravo’s Frou-Frou show, Sonia Dubois saw her life change completely: “I looked like a bookworm and suddenly I found myself in the glitterati of television. (…) It changed everything in my life.“She then returns to a significant period in her life, her impressive weight loss.

“I needed to lose weight, it became an obligation”

As everything seems to happen quickly in his life, his physical change also happened quickly. In 1994, Sonia Dubois lost 60kg: “First I needed to lose weight, it became an obligation. I had to go on a diet with a young Belgian woman my age who had imported a method. And then I lost a lot of weight, I stabilized and I wrote the books “Maigrissons ensemble” and “Journal d’une grosse repentie”, which are the four years of rebalancing food. It was made to be shared. Buying a book costs less than buying fashion magazines. My books always sell.“But this big change also had an impact on his career.

I betrayed the girls who loved me”

Twenty years after her weight loss, Sonia Dubois has the necessary perspective to speak out about the partly negative impact that this change in body had on her career. In 2014, on Thierry Ardisson’s show, she confided: “I betrayed the girls who loved me, I left this incredible gang which is the gang of fat girls.” Never mind, Sonia Dubois launched into theater and took to the stage in The Vagina Monologues for example. Never forgetting her revelation for dietetics, her interest in food health grew over time and she published in 2024 the book Le Bio existe-t-il vraiment chez l’Archipel. She denounces the scams linked to greenwashing.
