This July 1, 2024, Princess Diana would have celebrated her 63rd birthday. Nearly 27 years after her death, her former sister-in-law Sarah Ferguson, with whom she was particularly close, fondly remembered the princess.

No one has forgotten her. This July 1, 2024, Lady Diana would have celebrated her 63rd birthday. And for the occasion, some members of the family had touching words for the princess. This is particularly the case of Sarah Ferguson. On Instagram, the ex-wife of Prince Andrew dedicated a touching text to her “dear friend”, who died on August 31, 1997 at only 36 years old.

“Happy birthday to my dear friend, Diana,” wrote Sarah Ferguson, aka Fergie. “You were a pillar of light and love. And you left such a legacy behind. I will remember our laughter and the closeness of spirit I found in you,” she captioned a photo showing the two young women on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

“I am sure you are watching over us forever. Rest in peace, my friend,” she added in her vibrant tribute.

Friends before their respective marriages

Before becoming the respective wives of Prince Charles and Prince Andrew, the two women had been friends since they were teenagers. “We were best friends since she was 14 and I was 15,” Sarah Ferguson told People in a 2021 interview. It was actually Diana’s Princess, whom Sarah Ferguson nicknamed “Duch,” who introduced her to Prince Andrew. “I said, ‘Oh, Andrew is really handsome,'” the Duchess of York recalled in the interview.

The two women also went through a thousand emotions together. Nights out at nightclubs, being in a police car… The two friends supported each other for a long time. “Diana and I both had our own mental health issues, and she and I used to talk,” also recalled the mother of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
