This is a project that is no longer at the hypothesis stage: the series The Legends Office by Eric Rochant, a real critical and public hit between 2015 and 2020 on Canal+, is adapted into a series in the United States. If the adaptation was originally going to be called The Departmentthe official title communicated by Paramount+ and Showtime, the future broadcasters, finally changed to The Agency. While we already knew that George Clooney and Grant Heslov would be among the producers, fans of the spy series were impatiently waiting to know who would be chosen to don the costume of Malotru, played in the original version by Mathieu Kassovitz .
Michael Fassbender will play the lead role in the American version of the Legends Office
In terms of casting, Paramount+ and Showtime pulled out all the stops because it’s none other than the multi-awarded German actor Michael Fassbender who will headline the series. The favorite actor of Steve McQueen (Shame, Twelve Years a Slave) will play the role of Martian, an undercover CIA agent who is called back to London HQ. It is also in the British capital that production of the fiction has already begun and where most of the plot will take place. Showtime CEO Chris McCarthy explained the actor’s choice in a statement: “Michael Fassbender is one of the most gifted actors of our time. He brings gravitas and nuanced complexity to every character he plays, which is why we’re so excited he’s starring in The Agency.”
What will the American version of the Legends Office ?
Very little information on the adaptation of the Canal+ series having been communicated, it is still difficult to know to what extent it will remain faithful to the original. Apart from the fact that he is a CIA agent based in London, the pitch communicated states: “When the love he left behind reappears, romance is reborn. His career, his true identity, and his mission clash with his heart, thrusting them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage .” A summary apparently very close to the intrigues traversed by Malotru. It remains to be seen which actors will give the answer to Michael Fassbender, in particular for cult characters from the French series like Marie-Jeanne (Florence Loiret-Caille) or Marina Loiseau (Sara Giraudeau ).
