In recent months, almost all artists have been asked to take a position on Aya Nakamura’s participation in the Paris Olympic Games ceremony. But if everyone responded clearly and clearly, very often defending the artist, Michel Sardou did not hear it that way. And that’s the least we can say…

In a very busy year in terms of current affairs in France, this is one of the debates that will have most captivated the crowds: Aya Nakamura at the Olympic Games, is it a good idea or not? For several months now, two camps have been opposing each other, between those who welcome this idea wanted by Emmanuel Macron to highlight the diversity of the country, and those who believe that the singer has nothing to do there.

It is in this context that almost all singers, actors and showbiz personalities have been asked the famous question during an appearance on a television or radio set. But where some took the trouble to develop a detailed argument, generally in favor of the native of Bamako, Michel Sardou did things a little differently…

Michel Sardou does not want to hear about Aya Nakamura

Interviewed in the columns of “Le Parisien” last March, the man with 100 million albums sold had indeed offered a response without any wooden language, with a cantankerous background as he is sometimes capable of:

Who is Aya Nakamura? Get your head in the sand, I don’t listen to anything, I’m not interested anymore. Have you seen a radio here?

More broadly, the entire current musical spectrum no longer interests a backward-looking Sardou, clearly assuming that he is no longer in tune with his times:

I like Vianney, Taylor Swift… She’s a good singer and she seems nice. I watch the news, sports, but no entertainment shows The telecrochets, the masked guys who sing dressed as lobsters (reference to “Mask Singer”, editor’s note), The Voice… I don’t care.

As a reminder, Pierre Billon, a great friend of the “Lakes of Connemara” performer for many decades, was enthusiastic about the choice of Aya Nakamura. he explained thus:

I love this singer, I really like her songs. We dissected them because we did them for “Mask Singer” sometimes (he is the artistic director of the show, editor’s note). And when we dissect, we realize that it’s really good.

But I wouldn’t want it to be political. It’s bound to be political, people will say: “it’s not right to do it”. It’s still setting people against each other, it’s a huge load of bullshit.

There were pros and cons, now there is the one who doesn’t give a damn: retired and no longer necessarily in tune with the current musical scene, Michel Sardou has let it be known that he didn’t even know Aya Nakamura. A blasé response in the purest style of the singer, who, as you will have understood, wishes to be left alone for his happy days!
