A singer friend of the Presidents. In an article published by The Parisian this Tuesday, June 25, Quebec singer Robert Charlebois made some confidences and looked back on his career and his musical future. The artist, who celebrates his 80th birthday today, explained that he was a friend of a famous French president: Jacques Chirac. “He called me Master because I sent him beer when I was a brewer”, he confided in the pages of the newspaper. A surprising revelation, but not really since the artist had the opportunity to meet several French presidents.

“I sang twice for Mitterrand. At Christmas at the Élysée, you have to go quickly because the children don’t care. Afterwards, he asked me to sing during a visit to Ottawa”he added before remembering that he had “sung alongside Edith Butler during the evening at the Governor General’s house”. The 80-year-old also became friends with Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni. “I also know Sarkozy well, a true product of Quebec, and Carla”, he clarified. Robert Charlebois is the true friend of presidents! During his life, he also had the opportunity to meet Elvis Presley, Coluche and the star of French song Céline Dion.

The Quebec composer still has plenty of projects in mind. According to information collected by The Parisianhe plans to create a symphony concert in Montreal at the end of August which he should present in Paris in 2025. This fall, he will be back in the capital with his show “Charlebois, Ducharme and the others” in which he recounts his musical roots in songs and music and where he is accompanied by five musicians on stage. An exceptional show which combines poetry, rock and humor and which delighted the public ten times at the beginning of June in Bobino. “His tour is a tribute to his authors and a best of his 60-year career”we could read in the columns of our colleagues.
