As every year, the public benefits from a single rate of 5 euros per seat, for the entire duration of the event. A boon for spectators, as well as for the films on show.
Instead A little something extra, The Count of Monte Cristo, Vice-Versa 2 ? And why not all three? The Cinema Festival is coming this Sunday, June 30, in all theaters in France. The opportunity for spectators to benefit from a single price whatever their session.
Until July 3 inclusive, the price of a ticket is therefore 5 euros for all films, with the exception of those in 3D, 4Dx or iMax, subject to the usual rate. As every year, the event is organized by the National Federation of French Cinemas (FNCF). This group of unions of the profession thus seeks to “welcome all audiences” in the theaters.
A godsend for several films on view: after a resounding and unexpected entry at the box office, Artus’ film, A little something extra should be able to exceed 8 million entries. Biggest French production of the year, Le Comte de Monte Cristo also takes part in the celebrations: with Pierre Niney in the title role, the blockbuster was released, not on Wednesday, but on Friday, especially for the occasion.
Enough to attract film buffs of all persuasions. Launched in 1985, the Fête du cinéma is today one of the unmissable events for the public, promoted each year by actresses and actors, as for this 39th edition, with Audrey Lamy and Damien Bonnard.
Price increase in 2023
In 2022, the event attracted more than three million spectators. The ticket price was then limited to 4 euros. But since 2023, the FNCF has decided to increase it. An increase linked to the “cost of operating the rooms” had then justified, last year, the general delegate of the FNCF, Marc Olivier Sebbag.
An increase which is also part of the general increase in the price of tickets: + 2.7% this year, while the average price is estimated, according to the National Cinema Center (CNC) at 7.20 euros. In certain rooms, the price of the place can even exceed 20 euros.
A party disrupted by the elections?
Another challenge for this 39th edition: the upheaval of the political context. With the early legislative elections, the Cinema Festival falls right between the two rounds. A heavy political climate which could weigh on the event and make spectators less inclined to go to the cinemas.
But Marc-Olivier Sebbag prefers to remain optimistic: “The election campaign does not prevent people from going to the cinema, we offer a moment of respite,” he confided to AFP. Especially if they decide to go and vote, the French “will tend to go away less on weekends” and will therefore be freer to go to the cinema, he continues. At the polls, then in theaters: that’s a program for this start of summer.
